Seated noble maternity figure. Has fine detailed coiffure and real delicate rows of beads around neck and waist.
Characteristics – Elongated neck. A reproduction, made within 10 years and used for trade. This piece has a Koalin cover over the whole figure and is in excellent condition.

BAULE TRIBE FIGURE FROM IVORY COAST

Figures were usually carved to appease the bush spirits or incarnate the spirit of the dead. The sculpture is then worshipped in the house of the designated individual and offered food and often rubbed on the owners skin. Characteristic - Baule statuettes are usually standing with legs slightly bent with hands on abdomen in a peace gesture. This piece has clean lines and is in good condition.
